Getting started: What should we do to prepare for free consultation and testing at Brain Potential?

• It is most important that students should be tested at a time of day when they are well rested.

• Eat a high quality protein meal prior to the test. No sugar donuts! Hawaiian Punch, sodas and other sweets are discouraged — children sometimes become distracted, hyperactive and silly when they over indulge in sweets, and this can result in questionable test results.

• The test typically takes one hour; however, consultation and question and answers typically take another hour, so be sure you schedule enough time.

• All adult family members (major decision makers) are requested to participate in the initial consultation to make decisions about enrolling the student in treatment. This includes those who will be paying for treatment or providing transportation to and from the program, or will possibly be learning treatment techniques to be performed at home.

• Parents and sometimes grandparents are encouraged to actually observe as the student takes the test, as many families believe that watching the test live is the first time they actually understand what the real problem is, and what can be done about it.

• If possible, arrangements should be made for any other children to be cared for at home so you and your spouse can give your full attention to the child being tested. If you are unable to leave other children at home, please bring a caregiver to watch them in the lobby while testing and consultation are in progress.

Payment Options: How do I pay for this kind of help?

Treatment for learning problems is never an inexpensive process; however Brain Potential offers a variety of payment options:

• Cash
• Checks
• VISA, MasterCard, Discover, American Express
• Installment payment plans, with zero percent interest
• Care Credit – a medical-based credit card with 11.9 percent interest that allows families to obtain treatment, typically for $200 per month.

Do we take insurance?

Some families have been successful receiving reimbursements for their Brain Potential program from Cafeteria Style Benefit Plans that typically have flexible spending accounts that cover a wider range of services than traditional health insurance. Some parents have received reimbursement from their insurance company, but it is unusual rather than usual. We require that all Brain Potential families pay for their services according to their financial agreements, then they may file their own insurance and be reimbursed directly at a later date. We will be happy to provide letters of medical necessity, dates of services, invoices or other support documents to assist in this process. We do have a medical billing specialist who will be happy to discuss financial arrangements with you or your insurance company.
